dubJproductions and ANON Magazine Present: Mixtape Release Party
On Delay / Adventure Camp / The Human Circuit / Featherface
Wednesday, November 5th
Last Wednesday night brought together an indie-pop-rock-psychedelic cast of Austin and Houston-based bands at the infamous The Mohawk on Red River Street. Despite the prolonged drizzly weather, an impressive crowd showed up early and stayed to show their support for all four musical acts. The Mixtape Release Party show came to fruition thanks to a collaboration between dubJproductions and ANON Magazine who helped promote and arrange the fantastic line-up for the show.
Despite their recent formation and Wednesday’s show being only their third live performance to date, On Delay put on a solid set to start the night. Pulling from psychedelic influences, Dieter Geisler’s soaring vocal range was impressive to say the least, and each song they performed seemed to be even better than the last. Throughout the night, On Delay’s energetic reverb filled venue, creating a remarkable and lasting impression. On Delay is certainly one band to keep on your local music radar.
Adventure Camp took the stage for their debut performance and spared no hesitation in getting the crowd energized. Another recently crafted band, Adventure Camp’s trio meshed flawlessly on stage, combined with lively projected visuals of slo-mo Corgis and My Little Pony characters inside The Mohawk. It’s clear to see that Clifford Ledbetter’s childhood musical influences with the likes of Thursday, Chiodos, and Saosin have shaped their sound and bring a nostalgic post-hardcore touch to their performance.
The Human Circuit has carved out a name for themselves within the Austin music scene — having performed at a plethora of venues and events, their creative skill and talent show no sign of slowing down anytime soon. With infectious melodies, upbeat vocals and encompassing horns, The Human Circuit lets you get lost in their music and leaves you coming out in positive bliss. As Mat Oldiges told ANON Magazine, “never ever entertain being in a band with someone you can’t respect, love, and defend” holds true with their undeniable cohesiveness, both on stage and off. Keep an eye and ear out for their music video for “Time As Proof” coming out in December.

Last but not least to kick off the night was Featherface based out of Houston, releasing their “Make U Mine” cassette single. Having played as an official SXSW artist and CMJ in Manhattan, the members of Featherface are no strangers to delivering a stellar performance. Featherface’s set ranged from melodic to psychedelic, driven by heavy guitar riffs and harmonic tones. Kenny Hopkin’s vocals ring with confidence, and the band grabs you with an intense energy that never ceases throughout their set.
Drawing from dubJ’s talents as a promoter, ANON Magazine’s print magazine and vintage inspired merchandise booth, and the expertise of every single one of the musicians on stage, November 5th’s Mixtape Release Party showcased just how united and close-knit Austin’s creative community truly can be.
